Insight Sourcing Group holds second annual firmwide community service event in partnership with historic Oakland Cemetery.

ATLANTA, GEORGIAApril 1, 2019—Insight Sourcing Group’s commitment to giving back to its community continued as the firm held its second company-wide volunteer service day in partnership with Atlanta’s historic Oakland Cemetery, one of the largest cemetery green spaces in the country and located southeast of downtown Atlanta. Oakland is the resting place for several notable Atlantans including Margaret Mitchell (author of Gone with the Wind), Bobby Jones (famous golfer and co-founder of Augusta National), and Selena Sloan Butler (co-founder of the National Parent Teacher Association). Six Georgia governors and 26 Atlanta mayors are also buried at Oakland.

For its second annual service day, all 131 employees convened early in the morning and completed a number of landscaping projects throughout the cemetery’s various “character” areas including the original six acres, Jewish Hill, the African-American Grounds, East Hill, Bell Tower Ridge, and the Greenhouse Valley. Projects included weeding, mulching, planting shrubs and other flowers, irrigating, and general clean-up around gravesites and headstones.

“This was a great opportunity for our entire team to help the community in a historic Atlanta location,” said Brent Eiland, President of Insight Sourcing Group. “Our annual service day is a great reminder that it’s not always about the business, and that it’s incredibly important to give back. I am grateful to have been part of such a fun and impactful event, and I know the rest of our team feels the same way.”

Insight Sourcing Group has an internal advisory committee dedicated to planning and executing volunteer events for the firm.  The firm currently holds one company-wide service event day and four quarterly volunteer events with local nonprofit partners.

About Oakland Cemetery

Oakland Cemetery is one of the largest cemetery green spaces, located in Atlanta, Georgia.  Founded as Atlanta Cemetery in 1850 on six acres of land southeast of the city, it was renamed in 1872 to reflect the large number of oak and magnolia trees growing in the area. By that time, the city had grown and the cemetery had enlarged correspondingly to the current 48 acres.  Since then, Atlanta has continued to expand so that the cemetery is now located in the center of the city. Because of its age and location, the cemetery directly reflects the history and changing culture of the City of Atlanta and the significant events it has seen. Names of Atlanta streets, buildings, parks, subdivisions, and more can be found within the cemetery gates. An estimated 70,000 people are interred at Oakland, and while the last plots were sold in 1884, there are still regular burials today.
